#these lines were so important to me for so many reasons#they tell us so much about kira#she’s half-japanese half-korean and speaks neither language#her parents never tried to teach her probably the influence of assimilation was too strong#and she doesn’t do well in english class either#she’s not a ‘smart straight-a asian’#and her parents don’t beat her down for it#they’re probably disappointed but we don’t see them constantly criticizing her for it#that’s really refreshing to see in an asian teenager and asian family on american tv#it’s so easy to default to the ‘smart student/hardass parents’ asian stereotype#but this doesn’t#and i appreciate that#and also this tied in very neatly to japanese culture and kitsune lore (thank you mason)#which was also wonderful#i really liked everything about this scene basically#it was really important to me and probably one of my favorite scenes of the entire season#just because of what it said about kira’s backround#and about her and mason as people#teen wolf#mason hewitt#kira yukimura#teen wolf season 5

Teen Wolf gets characterization really well when it wants to do it. I mean, back in Season 1 it used one inhaler to tell us all about Scott and his family’s money problems, and here it used one grade to explain the way Kira’s parents are raising her.
This is a very good way of showing, not telling. Which is why it feels so powerful even if its very short.
